YIKES! However, many studies suggest that over 75% of that is wasted on ineffective dieting where the weight comes back within one to two years. This is a HUGE problem considering two-thirds of adults and nearly one-third of children still struggle with obesity. Although these quick fix diets may help you lose weight in a short period of time, they don’t take don’t take your age, gender, lifestyle, activity level, or natural shape and size into consideration. All of these factors influence what foods will and won’t be nourishing for your unique body. This is why we gain the weight back after a short period of time!

The key to sustainable weight loss and optimal health is NOT to deprive ourselves of foods that our bodies need, but to maintain a healthy balance of food, movement, and healthy blood sugar balance.

WHAT DO BLOOD SUGARS AND INSULIN HAVE TO DO WITH WEIGHT LOSS?

Blood sugar, or blood glucose, is a sugar that is is the body's main source of fuel. It comes from the foods we eat and is transported through our bloodstream to provide energy to our cells immediately or to be stored for future use. If your blood sugar levels are balanced, you will experience consistent energy levels, focus, stable moods, few cravings, and healthy weight maintenance. 

Unfortunately, most people's blood sugars are not properly balanced and they experience the dreaded blood sugar roller coaster ride. You may experience fatigue, thirst, restlessness, and frequency to urinate due to increased blood sugars after a meal, while the next meal you may experience low blood sugars resulting in binge eating, dizziness, mood swings, anxiety and headaches.  This vicious cycle of spikes and drops in blood sugar levels can occur when you consume too much processed and refined carbohydrates, skip meals, and aren't engaging in an active lifestyle or following a balanced meal plan. To delve deeper, your pancreas makes a hormone called insulin. Insulin helps the glucose get into your cells so you can get the energy you need.  If the glucose can't get into your cells, it can lead to persistent elevated blood sugars which can lead to diabetes. 

 

 

SO HOW DO WE GAIN BLOOD SUGAR CONTROL?

Great question! We do this by learning to managing your unique blood sugar spikes using the Glycemic Index (GI), a scale that measures how fast and how much a food will raise your blood sugar levels after eating. Foods with a high GI score are rapidly absorbed into your blood, and result in high blood sugar fluctuations, which is not desirable. Foods with a low GI score are absorbed slowly, encourage the body to burn fat, and produce gradual rises in blood sugar and insulin levels...and this is exactly the foods we are aiming to eat during SHED 14.

During the 14-day cleanse, we are focusing on balancing our blood sugars, discovering new foods and delicious recipes, and committing to our weight loss goals. The meals I've provided are low glycemic index and will not only cleanse your body, but will give you energy, help you shed toxic weight, and give your body a much needed nutritional reset. We aren't just focusing on the scale, counting calories, or the physical aspects of losing weight. You'll also learn how to de-stress your mind, body and spirit when you commit to SHED 14. After the two weeks of shedding the weight off, I highly encourage you to begin my 28-day clean eating program, REBOOT 28. I will be there to guide and educate you, step-by-step and week-by-week, as you begin to re-introduce carbohydrates and meals that were eliminated during the first two weeks.
