Remember that delicious "Magic Shell" from childhood that would magically harden over your desserts? Tasted so good, but it was extremely processed with high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) and partially hydrogenated soybean oil - both of which are so harmful to our bodies! If you find HFCS on any food labels, you can be certain that it is not a whole, real fresh food. Stay far away from it if you want to stay healthy. It is a red flag that the food you are about to eat is poor quality and full of empty calories and artificial ingredients. As for partially hydrogenated soybean oil, it is a trans fat that is known to raise LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) and lower HDL (good cholesterol), which can double your risk of heart disease. Not to mention, it is genetically modified!
This homemade version is so easy to whip-up & contains healthy fats, antioxidants & uses only three ingredients:
- 1/2 cup coconut oil (melted)
- 1/2 cup raw cacao powder
- 1/4 cup sweetener of choice (maple syrup, raw honey, or coconut nectar)
Once you make the chocolate sauce, dip any of your favorite fruits into it: kiwis, berries, bananas, cherries, persimmons, etc. I love them at room temperature, dehydrated, or frozen! Have fun with this! And be careful...they can be addicting!
